Ten Tips for Good Kitchen Design

If you’re preparing to sell or simply doing some remodelling work to make your home a nice place to live, all experts agree that the kitchen is the one room that is best to invest your time and money in. Just the same though, how you spend your money, and time working on your kitchen is important.

You see, for one thing trends in remodelling and decorating come and go just as they do say with clothing. What this means is some design aspect that you may have seen and have had your mind made up on for some time now, may be on its way out of style. So then here are ten great tips to help you through to success on your kitchen job.

#1 Plan carefully and avoid making spontaneous decisions. It’s a good idea to sleep and wait a day, before finalizing any snap decisions that you have to make.

#2 Decide on a budget and then divide it up into segments that you can work from. Of course you can make changes and adjustments to it as you go, but this will help you stay inside of perimeters.

#3 Take plenty of time to research new materials and product technologies. The last thing you need is to find out about, say some amazing new counter top composite material after you have had your counters installed.

#4 Don’t be overly dazzled by exotic woods. You’re better off with a high quality simple pine than a low grade exotic.

#5 New advancements in laminated hardwood flooring products means that they now work far better in kitchens than they used to. Do a little research on them.

#6 Don’t go crazy when you’re out shopping for ceramic tiles. There are just so many to choose from, and prices do vary widely. Sometimes your best choice is a simple low cost tile design.

#7 If you are limited for space then overcome this using intelligent kitchen design and try to think about what you really need in your kitchen to avoid it becoming cramped and cluttered.

#8 Don’t try to reinvent the wheel. What this means is that it’s OK to look around and copy other peoples design work.

#9 If you have the floor space, then look into having an island installed. They make for extra counter, storage, and work space. Be aware though that you do need the floor space to fit one in.

#10 Don’t ignore your plumbing and electrical system. Once you have your kitchen taken out, that is the time to replace old pipe work, and outdated wiring. Do it while you can.
